After more than 30 years without a recreation facility, Whitefish (Goodfish) Lake First Nation dropped the first puck of many during their grand opening celebration.
AIOC was honoured to attend this event and tour their new multiplex, which features an arena, indoor walking track for Elders, commercial kitchen, and entrepreneurial/business area. This is an incredible milestone that will serve as a hub for sport, celebration, and community connection.
For decades, young athletes and families made long drives — sometimes up to two hours — to attend hockey practices. This new facility changes everything.
We’re proud to have a supporting role in this journey. Through AIOC’s loan guarantee program, the Nation was able to invest in infrastructure projects (such as the Cascade power plant, Athabasca Trunkline, and Access NGL system). These investments delivered immediate, stable revenue back to the community, and those revenues were instrumental in securing financing to bring this long-held dream into reality.
Congratulations to Whitefish (Goodfish) on this incredible milestone!
