Alberta Indigenous Opportunities Corporation appoints experienced private sector executive Steven Kroeker as Chief Investment Officer October 11, 2023 (Alberta) – The Alberta Indigenous Opportunities Corporation (AIOC) is pleased to announce Steven Kroeker as its new Chief Investment Officer and welcomes him to the organization.
Steven Kroeker brings over 27 years of financial experience in Alberta, primarily with respect to energy infrastructure. Most recently, he was Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Keyera Corp., a publicly traded energy infrastructure company with assets largely located in Alberta. For most of his 14-year career at Keyera Corp, he was responsible for the strategic and financial evaluation and execution of acquisitions and divestments. Prior to Keyera Corp., Steven spent nine years as an investment banker in Calgary with Scotia Capital, where he worked on various mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures, as well as on various equity financings.
The AIOC is a provincial Crown Corporation that provides loan guarantees to Indigenous communities, allowing them to acquire equity in large infrastructure projects in Alberta’s natural resources, agriculture, transportation, and telecommunications sectors. These projects provide their affiliated Indigenous partners with long term and stable revenue streams upon completion and allows the industry partners to show active participation in reconciliation. To date, the AIOC has provided $511 million in loan guarantees across five transactions, serving a total of 27 Indigenous communities who are now able to make tangible improvements to and investments into their communities, fostering Indigenous prosperity and independence.
Steven has a Master of Business Administration from the Richard Ivey School of Business at University of Western Ontario and a Bachelor of Commerce with Distinction from the University of Calgary. Steven also serves on the Board of Directors and Audit Committee of World Vision Canada, and on the Calgary Advisory Board for The Salvation Army.
